My Case Was Sealed, but DoorDash Won’t Activate My Account Because of a Background Check What Should I Do?

If your case was sealed, it generally should not appear on a background check used for work decisions. When DoorDash won’t activate you because of a background check, the most important step is to figure out whether the screening report actually shows the sealed case, or whether DoorDash is blocking you for a different reason (identity/verification/policy). If the sealed case is showing on the report, you can usually dispute it and demand removal, and you may have legal rights under the FCRA if the error cost you income.

What to do next (the most effective path)

  1. Get the exact background check report DoorDash used.
DoorDash often uses Checkr. If so, log in to the Checkr Candidate Portal and download the full report. You need to see what DoorDash saw.

  2. Look for any mention of the sealed case (or the case number/county).
If the sealed record appears at all, even as a partial entry, that’s a problem.

  3. Gather your sealing paperwork.
Get the court order or documentation showing the case is sealed (or legally restricted).

  4. Dispute DoorDash background check in writing with the background check company.
Explain that the case is sealed and should not be reported. Attach the sealing order. Ask them to remove it and send an updated report.

  5. Notify DoorDash that you disputed the report.
Keep it short: the report contains restricted information, you filed a dispute, and you’re requesting re-review once corrected.

When this could be a strong legal case

You may have a strong claim if:

  • The sealed case appears on the report, and

  • DoorDash relied on it to deny activation or deactivate you, or

  • The background check company failed to remove it after being given proof.

How we can help

If DoorDash’s decision was based on a report that included a sealed case, we can help get the record removed from your background check and pursue compensation if the illegal reporting cost you work or income.
